About

Background

The Rape Counselling & Resource Centre SCIO has been working with and for survivors to reduce the harm caused by rape and sexual abuse since 1987. The Centre provides free and confidential counselling, support and information services.

We are a feminist organisation and member of the Rape Crisis Scotland network, based in the centre of Kilmarnock. We provide counselling, support work, advocacy, information and access to resources, as well as, support through the legal process and other therapeutic interventions deemed useful to the healing process.

We offer support to anyone affected by sexual violence and to family members of survivors to enable them to better understand and support their loved ones.

We also offer training, talks and workshops to the voluntary sector as well as statutory bodies and we have a Sexual Violence Prevention Programme, which we deliver to groups of young people aged 13-25 years in East Ayrshire.

Vision

That anyone can live without fear, threat or experience of all forms of sexual violence.

Mission

To provide the best possible service, information and support to anyone who has experienced or been affected by sexual violence.

Values

  • We aim to reduce the harm caused by rape and sexual abuse by supporting anyone who has experienced sexual violence to determine and implement their chosen course of action.
  • To improve the lives of everyone across Ayrshire by ensuring they have access to rape and sexual abuse services.
  • To ensure anyone who accesses our services is treated with dignity and respect.
  • To ensure that anyone who has experienced sexual violence feels safe and supported.
  • We encourage research into the causes of or, any ways of preventing or relieving the suffering caused by sexual abuse.
  • We raise awareness about rape and sexual abuse with the public, the media, the police, the courts, social services and other authorities.
  • We work in partnership with other professionals and agencies to liaise with and enlist the support of professional workers to help anyone who has experienced rape or sexual abuse with all aspects of their care and support.
  • We promote equality and diversity by upholding and promoting the rights of anyone regardless of ethnicity, religion, or cultural background, who has experienced sexual violence.
  • We believe that violence against women is symptomatic of wider structural inequalities in society, and thus mainly perpetrated by men.
